What if WIF was down…?
Rather than Imagining, It did happen.
All the products owned by Meta were down on Oct 4th, 8:30 pm ISD to Oct 5th. Literally all down.
When it was down I just observed all the things and reactions of humans and noted it down at that moment and now thought it to add here on my website.
1. First 15 mins humans ignored it and were chilled, Then later they checked if their network is working or not, checking other apps and other mediums. Few figured out that it was just a WhatsApp issue but when Instagram and Facebook went down people called their ISP and complained that the Internet is not working. Few went out and checked if their phone is perfectly working or not. WIF is so damn into human’s life that even if other things and apps were working and WIF was not working they assumed that all other things were also not working.
2. All people got free and they wanted some work or some other platform where they can enjoy this situation talk about it, enjoy memes, and that platform emerged out to be was Twitter. Twitter got heavily activated. Users gathered to discuss Jokes, business lessons, blaming hackers ( attackers), Data leaks which is one of the favorite part of the Meta company 🙂 , And it was a Monday so developers all around the world were having empathy towards meta developers.
3. After 2 hours of WIF down People having whole businesses dependent on WIF were started to get worried since the domain name of Facebook got deleted from the Internet and Facebook dot com was for sale. People got their set back from it since they were solely dependent on it, User started planning for something new and something very own. If this thing gets down they would have their own platforms where all the data are still there and can be accessed globally.
4. WIF haters started celebrating “Mental Health Day”, They felt like people started to notice the real world since Meta as the company has a great history of manipulating users’ data, tracking their data, and even selling data for money.
5. The major benefiters from this outrage were Twitter and Telegram at least in India, People from Twitter started making strategies to attract more audiences, A hell of discussion around WIF, Internet outrage, Elex Outrage. Outrage for months, weeks, years, and forever.
6. IT Team planning for the best case to tackle this outrage for their own product like forming a Disaster Management Team ( DMT ) to minimize the impact on business.
7. The most important one which all the users did was to MOVE, Life moves on… Everything came back after 5 to 8 hours of impact.
